I am a tenure track assistant professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) and principal investigator of FuTURE Lab. I am interested in the design and control of continuum robots for diagnosis and treatment of cancerous tissue or faulty organs deep in the anatomy. Previous to becoming an assistant professor, I was a postdoctoral research fellow in Boston Children’s Hospital - Harvard Medical School. I received my B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and M.S. in Robotics and Automation from the University of Pisa, Italy. I received the M. Res. in Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention from Imperial College of London, UK, and Ph.D. in medical robotics from the University of Leeds, UK.

I was awarded the Alumni Awards 2023 from the British Council for Science and Sustainability in the USA, for my research on medical robots in the UK and USA.

Aug 16, 2024 I founded FuTURE Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute </a>.
May 5, 2024 This summer I will talk about the usage of magnetic ball chains for acutation and sensing in cardiac applications at the Hamlyn Symposium (Wed 26th Session 2), at the workshop Endoluminal Robots , and the ISMR workshop The Third Holistic Forum of Medical Robotic Junior Professors . Reach out to meet if you are attending these conferences!
Oct 9, 2023 Great success of our IROS 2023 workshop Debate: Data vs Model in Medical Robotics ! Looking forward to more of these meetings.
Aug 3, 2023 Our paper on minimally invasive delivery of photothermal therapy was publshed in Nature Communications Engineering . In the related post we describe how this technology can revolutionize lung cancer treatment.
Jul 17, 2023 I am so proud that the first student I supervised, during her master thesis, Lavinia Barducci received her PhD! Congrats Lavinia.
